How do I add accommodations for a student in Quizzes?

Adding ADA Accommodations

These directions will allow you to comply with the additional time requirements that students may need as part of their academic accommodations.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In Course Navigation, click the Quizzes link.
  2. To add student accommodations, locate any existing Quiz.
  3. Then click the Options icon and select the Build link.
  4. Click the Moderate tab.
  5. Click the student name link of the student you want to apply accommodations.

(Alternatively, you can use the Search field to find a specific student.)

  1. In the Time adjustments menu, select the time adjustment option you want to give the student. You can give additional time, remove the time limit (unlimited), or add time using a time limit multiplier.
  2. To add additional time, select the Give additional time option in the time adjustments menu. Then use the Hours and Minutes fields to add additional time.
  3. To remove the time limit, select the Remove time limit (unlimited) option in the time adjustments menu.
  4. To add a time limit multiplier, select the Time limit multiplier option in the time adjustments menu. Then enter the multiplier in the Time limit multiplier field.
  5. To moderate a student’s quiz and reduce answer choices. Click on the student’s name in the moderation list, then click Reduced answer choices; this removes one incorrect answer from all multiple-choice questions with four or more options.
  6. To apply the changes, click the Save button.
  7. You can view the student’s accommodations in the Accommodations column. This. The column displays the cumulative effect of accommodations and moderation timer settings.

TLC Pro-Tips for Course Enhancements

    • Data-Informed Insights: If utilizing Canvas Quizzes or New Analytics, check your course data after the first week of the term. This insight will help you identify which resource folders students are accessing most frequently.
    • Accessibility Check: Always run the native Canvas Accessibility Checker (the small person icon at the bottom of the Rich Content Editor) before publishing a new content page. This ensures all tables, text colors, and media elements remain fully accessible to all modern learners.
    • Student Interaction: Consider integrating short, informal Canvas surveys. This active feedback measure lets you stay highly responsive to ongoing student academic and personal growth needs.
    • Question Stem Construction: Follow the faculty item development guide to have the strongest, concise question stems that will help lead to better assessments with better measurable results.
